The Hansaviertel (in English)

International Architecture 1957

The Hansaviertel, located in the heart of West Berlin, was originally intended as a presentation of contemporary residential architecture during INTERBAU. It has since become a popular residential area. In competition with East Berlin’s prestigious Stalinallee, the designers of the Hansaviertel aimed to create a high-quality living environment that also took social aspects into account. Standard features include balconies, accessible rooftops, green surroundings, open spaces, natural light and modern building technology. Stalinallee and Hansaviertel applied together for the World Heritage List.

Meeting Point: in front of Grips Theater, exit Bartningallee (U Hansaviertel)
