Stop of lending and Closures

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus in 2019, the Bauhaus-Archiv’s existing building will be modernised in a manner appropriate to its status as a listed landmark and it will be supplemented by a new museum building. Preparations have now begun for the upcoming measures related to this move. The Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin thus requests your understanding for the fact that no more works can be made available for loans in the coming years.

Beginning in January 2017, our reference library is closed to visitors. From that date, it will also no longer be possible to use the archive. The Bauhaus exhibition is no longer presented in the museum. From 21 March to 29 April 2018, during our special programme “Open House”, you can explore the exhibition galleries freed from all architectural elements added at later times, take part in architectural tours or personally participate in a sound-art installation and performance.

From 30 April 2018, the museum building is no longer accessible. If you wish to find information about the holdings of the document collection in general, please use the Kalliope portal. The photo service will continue to be available for photo orders.

Big changes are coming!

Since 30 April 2018 the museum is unfortunately closed, so that construction work on the renovation and expansion can begin.
The bauhaus-shop and cafe will remain open in May. Opening Times bauhaus-shop: daily, except on Tuesdays, 10 am - 5 pm, Café: Mon-Fri, 10 am - 5 pm.

In the summer of 2018 the Bauhaus-Archiv will open a new project space in the rooms formerly occupied by the Kiepert bookshop in the Hardenberg House located at the corner of Knesebeckstraße and Hardenbergstraße. There we will inform you about all of our institution’s projects and continue to maintain contact with our visitors while the construction work is carried out. The bauhaus-shop also looks forward to greeting you there in future.
