The specialist library at the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung provides literature on the Bauhaus and its milieu and the associated artists, architects and designers. In addition, twentieth-century art, architecture, photography and design – particularly from the 1920s – are comprehensively documented. It also includes extensive holdings of historical and current journals on architecture and design.

Since 1 January 2017, our reference library is closed to visitors as preparations have begun for the upcoming measures related to our building project. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus, the Bauhaus-Archiv’s existing building will be modernised in a manner appropriate to its status as a listed landmark and it will be supplemented by a new museum building.

New temporary location!

The Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung at Klingelhöferstrasse is closed, as the museum building will be renovated and receive an extension. We are sorry for the inconvenience!

Enjoy a coffee or a small lunch in the historical building after a design by the Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius instead: the bauhaus-café will be open for you from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm until June 29, 2018.

As of June 30, 2018 you will be welcome at the temporary bauhaus-archiv / museum für gestaltung, our temporary location at Knesebeckstraße 1-2 (U Ernst-Reuter-Platz), including our bauhaus-shop. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
