Songs for „Driving with Fatima“
Joint project with the Nelson-Mandela-Schule
In the lead-up to the 2024 Bauhaus Music festival, composer Cathy Millikin invited the children to tell their personal stories about the festival theme “Freedom” in the form of poems, prose and songs, and to present them acoustically with basic methods. The inspiration and starting point of the project was her own radio play “Driving with Fatima” which tells the story of the South African writer Fatima Dike and her struggle for freedom. The students were invited to attend a live lunch concert performance of the radio play featuring the singer Jocelyn B. Smith on 17 October 2024.
