Bauhaus Women

Gallery exhibition

19.03.-15.11.2019

For many students, the Bauhaus, founded in 1919, was a promise. It attracted numerous female students who, just as their male fellow students, after having completed the preliminary course, continued their training in different workshops: typography and commercial art, metal and pottery, wall painting and architecture or cabinet-making and interior design and last but not least in the weaving workshop as is widely known. Many of them stood out as excellent photographers. Although not every professional dream may have came true, the female students benefitted from the innovative teaching methods which they partly transferred to their own work as teacher. At the Bauhaus (and beyond) they have developed unique pieces of art and design which still represent our perception of modernity.

Our presentation on the upstairs gallery at the temporary portrays around 60 Bauhaus women in pictures.
