With their comments on political events and the everyday life of this member of the Bauhaus, they are significant primary sources in terms of cultural history. In April 1933 the Bauhaus building in Berlin was surrounded, searched and sealed off by the police and SA. Several students were temporarily arrested. In July 1933 the last Bauhaus director, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and the remaining teachers in Berlin decided to dissolve the Bauhaus in order to prevent its political assimilation.
