Preliminary Course in Haptics

A workshop for the blind and visually impaired - open for all

The fundamentals of material science, composition and colour theory comprised the central focus of the preliminary course at the Bauhaus. This workshop examines these fundamentals and makes them tangible to blind and visually impaired people. Based on the 14 case studies featured in the exhibition original bauhaus, the participants will investigate the materiality and form of the exhibited works. Selected items serve to highlight some of the basic questions of the Bauhaus: How economical and how functional is a product? Under what social conditions is it produced and used?

Katharina Schmitt studied stage direction at the Prague Academy of the Musical Arts. In her work as a director and playwright – for the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and the Watermill Center in New York, among others – she explores forms that consist of elements from the visual arts and theatre.

Practical tip: All required materials will be provided. While registrations from blind and visually impaired people will have priority, this workshop is open to all. Please register online, by e-mail at bildung@berlinischegalerie.de or by telephone on 030 789 02 832 (Mon–Fri, 10 am–5 pm). Please also let us know if you require any further support.
