1921: The painters of expression With Franz Dinda
Expressionism and the Bauhaus
In the third episode of the second season, we focus on the year 1921 and devote ourselves entirely to the painters of the early Bauhaus. At the beginning of the school, almost all of the master form teachers were painters: Johannes Itten, Lyonel Feininger and Georg Muche. In 1921, Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer and Lothar Schreyer joined them. A large proportion of these artists worked in an expressionist style – a powerful, emotionally charged mode of painting that seemed to reflect the spirit of the age particularly well.
This time our guest on the podcast is Franz Dinda, best known as an actor. With him, we talk about his fascination with expressionist painting and the painters of the Bauhaus. In his studio in Kreuzberg, he also speaks about his life as an artist, poet and art researcher. For years he has been passionately engaged with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and most recently reconstructed a sketchbook by the expressionist painter.
