At the Bauhaus, there was a deep fascination with everything new — with technological innovations as well as with the artistic avant-garde. Visions of a different, “modern” way of life were at the heart of the Bauhaus members’ work, as the school saw itself as a “laboratory of modernity”. But how exactly did the Bauhaus imagine the future? And which of these utopian ideas became reality, and which remained thought experiments?

Together with futurist David Weigend, head of the “Futurium Lab”, Adriana Kapsreiter embarks on a journey of discovery between the futures imagined in the 1920s and the present day — exploring path dependencies and the concept of the “living lab”, and examining which visions of the future preoccupy us today.
