Festival “Bauhaus-Archiv. Come to the Building Site!”

In September 2025, the Bauhaus-Archiv opened its doors to the public while still undergoing renovation. We celebrated our new home with a colourful programme of hands-on activities. For three days, the still-empty exhibition hall – a space in transition and in the making – was transformed into a place of movement, light, play and creative exploration, appealing to visitors of all ages.
Our activities “Light Building Site” and “Lantern Making” were designed to raise awareness of the future use and orientation of the emerging “Tower for Education”, and to make it visible already as a future place for creative participation.

As part of the “Light Building Site” – a hybrid experience combining stage, shadow laboratory and material workshop – visitors were invited to contribute to a large-scale visual installation. The design was open, fluid and changeable, reflecting the idea of a museum in the making. The silhouette of the new tower served as a recurring point of reference, appearing as a whole, a fragment or a shadow figure.
In the “Lantern Making” workshop, visitors could experiment with light, form and material and design their own lantern to take home. Here, too, the silhouette of the tower formed the basis for the individual design of the light objects.
