Young Bauhaus. Inbetween Identities 2023/24

From 30. August bis zum 26. September 2024 , we, “Young Bauhaus”, curated an exhibition of their own artworks at the Temporary Bauhaus-Archiv.

We wanted to explore questions such as: How can design and architecture express identity? What mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion are to be found in art and design? How can these be revealed and thematised? How can we translate ideas and practices of the historical Bauhaus into the present?

The exhibition is meant to reflect our identity as a group while also showcasing the diverse identities of those who were able to come together in this open space. It’s about things as varied as Oskar Schlemmer’s “Triadic Ballet”, copper coils, fashion design – and rubbish. But above all, it’s about us and the world we’re growing up in.

We have been inspired by the Bauhaus preliminary courses, which fostered creative learning, personal development and experimentation with materials. Our material is our identities. The participatory format of Young Bauhaus and the exhibition itself represent an institutional experiment. They bridge the gap between the historical Bauhaus and the present. We are modern and bold – just like the members of the Bauhaus in their time.
Young Bauhaus enables us to vividly experience the fact that the Bauhaus was a place for learning and self-discovery – especially for young people.
