1924: Form & Life With Nina Sieverding and Anton Rahlwes

On Bauhaus Design

The sixth episode is devoted entirely to Bauhaus design. In 1924, two particularly famous designs were created: the so-called “Bauhaus Lamp” by Wilhelm Wagenfeld, which is still commercially available today, and the “Tea Infuser” by Marianne Brandt, of which only a handful of examples survive.

How did these designs come about? And how did teaching and practical workshop work influence the designers? Were there differences because one was a man and the other a woman?

Together with Nina Sieverding and Anton Rahlwes, former editors-in-chief of the design magazine “form”, we take a closer look at the two design icons and their creators. We learn how Marianne Brandt and Wilhelm Wagenfeld looked back on their Bauhaus years, what came next, and what significance their legendary Bauhaus designs hold today.
