Provenance research – that is, determining the origins of artworks and objects – is an important focus when dealing with our collection and new acquisitions. To this end, we reconstruct the origin and subsequent history of the works and examine whether they originate from possible contexts of injustice. Due to the focus of our collection, we concentrate primarily on cultural property that was formerly owned by Jews and was confiscated as a result of persecution as well as items from the Soviet occupation zone and East Germany.
