  • In 1979 the State of Berlin acquired Lyonel Feininger’s “Halle, am Trödel” from the Galerie Nierendorf in Berlin and transferred the painting to the Bauhaus-Archiv as a permanent loan (inv. no. 3698 LB). Numerous features related to its provenance, such as a number on the back of the painting, suggested that it came from a context of injustice.
