This drawing was created in the class of engineer Friedrich Köhn, who taught descriptive geometry for all students across all workshops as part of the foundation course at the Bauhaus Dessau. In this exercise, Margarete Dambeck has used isometric projection to construct a three-dimensional representation out of the front and side elevations as well as the roof plan of a small house. This basic knowledge of architectural drawing was supposed to train the students’ spatial imagination. These exercises were surely also very helpful for the students in the weaving workshop, to which Margarete Dambeck belonged, as they often designed their textiles specifically for defined spaces.
