Young Bauhaus
Creative, passionate about art, and full of ideas – that’s you?
We are “Young Bauhaus”, a group of young people between the ages of 17 and 23 who meet once a week at the Temporary Bauhaus-Archiv to talk about architecture, design as well as the Bauhaus and to make art together. To be “Young Bauhaus”, we need a room, material and each other: the Bauhaus-Archiv offers us space for dialogue and material for experimentation and design. We always dedicate our efforts to a topic we’ve chosen for ourselves and take over the project room to make our perspectives visible to everyone.
Just a Moment. The Young Bauhaus Festival
-
From 17 to 19 July our festival “Moment Mal” (Just a Moment) took place at the Temporary Bauhaus-Archiv. The festival was a place where visitors could take a timeout and experience what a break truly have to offer. They could listen to fascinating artist talks, film screenings, artworks, music and sound installations. Works of photography, sculpture and painting offered insights into the multifaceted meaning of “breaks”, while workshops invited participants to become acquainted with an entirely different kind of break.
-
Breaks played an important role at the historic Bauhaus. Outside the classroom, Bauhaus students and staff played sports, performed music, partied and relaxed with friends in the sun. The activities and relationships that emerged during these breaks led to new ideas. “Young Bauhaus” followed this example. As young people in a fast-moving world, we contemplated the various facets of breaks.
-
Some of us are taking a break between high school and university, while others have trouble finding time for breaks at all in their hectic academic life. The weekly Young Bauhaus meetings are often the only possibility to take time for art and forget the stress of everyday life. We like to think that taking a break is a simple act that anyone can do, but the reality is oftentimes different. With this festival, we wanted to dismantle the barriers that stand in the way of rest and relaxation and allow everyone to press the pause button – even for just a moment.
-
Our programme was devoted to the topic of “taking a break”. What comprises a good break? Can everyone allow themselves to take breaks? How can I optimise my break? What happens if I’m forced to take a break?
The Young Bauhaus Monument
-
The Young Bauhaus Monument is a large-scale collaborative installation, entirely created by Young Bauhaus, that explores the theme of “pause” by bringing together individual works across different media, perspectives, and forms of expression into one cohesive whole.
