Photography significantly influences our image of the Bauhaus to this day. Many of these iconic photos were made by outstanding women photographers whose work has remained obscured for decades despite its impact. The spectrum ranges from portrait and architectural photography to photos for advertising and reporting, all the way to abstract and experimental imagery. “Bauhaus Books No. 1 – The Women Photographers” presents 25 of these women photographers from our collection for the first time and features numerous photos that offer insight into a fascinating chapter of rediscovered photographic history.

New publication series “Bauhaus Books”
First volume featuring women photographers of the Bauhaus

“Bauhaus Books” is a new publication series by the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung, published by the Walther und Franz König publishing house. The release of the first volume “Bauhaus Books No. 1 – The Women Photographers” coincides with the exhibition “New Woman, New Vision. Women Photographers of the Bauhaus” at the Museum für Fotografie in Berlin (until 4 October 2026).

“Bauhaus Books” offers readers access to our Bauhaus Collection – the largest of its kind in the world – and highlights the relevance of the Bauhaus today. The series features a wide array of formats – from pocket-sized paperbacks to large-format catalogues – with an equally large range of thematic focuses: exhibition companion books, publications on exercises taught to students at the Bauhaus and articles on specific historical and contemporary research issues.
